BREAKING RACIAL DISPARITIES IN THE MEDIA
MXD Magazine is a publication and non-profit organization that celebrates LGBTQ People of Color (POCs). In our current LGBTQ media we have pages drenched with white muscular, masculine men as the benchmark for desirability and power. This is justifiable in an area where Caucasians are the majority, but that is not the case in San Francisco where 51.5% of its population are people of color.
POCs are the new majority in many cities like San Francisco. Oddly, there is still not enough media that represents lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, queer POCs. There have been efforts to launch and keep LGBTQ publications in circulation and MXD Magazine is here to pick up where previous media has left off.
American LGBTQ media is reliant on white people as the selling factor because they have cultivated in us that there is desirability and power in white skin. Today, we awaken to the truth that no human being is better than any other nor does skin color describe supremacy.
MXD Magazine is just a small addition to the ocean of media that inspires equality. The question is: are you going to be part of the movement to break racial disparity in America’s media and society? Or will you let racial inequality prevail?
The time has come for POCs to claim their space in media, not to dominate, rather to equally level the playing field. With the community’s support through supporters like you we can make this happen.
BEING A SPONSOR FOR MXD MAGAZINE IS:
- A reflection of your entity’s values and principles; that your entity supports humanitarian efforts such as advocating for equality in all forms. Doing the right thing is always good branding.
- More for you. We prefer to keep our ads less than 45% of the total number of pages which allows our partners to have a higher rate of brand recall.
- A pledge to keep media for POCs and allies available at all times. The future, after all, is an America with multiracial citizens.
